Angra do Heroísmo ,  May 10, 2016

Applications for allocation of 12 apartments in Angra do Heroísmo may submitted from today

The applications for the allocation of 12 dwellings, consisting of 11 two-bedroom apartments and one three-bedroom apartment in the neighbourhood of Canada do Breado in Santa Luzia, municipality of Angra do Heroísmo, may be submitted by all those who are interested from today and until the end of this month.

The opening notice and the rules of the tender publish today in the Official Journal may be consulted at the address http://www.azores.gov.pt/Portal/pt/entidades/srss-drh/textoImagem/Concursos.htm, at the Housing Services of Terceira Island (SHT) on Rua Dr. Aníbal Bettencourt, 242 (Angra do Heroísmo), at the Regional Directorate for Housing and island services, and even at the RIAC offices (Integrated Network for Citizen Support).

Applications may be submitted to Terceira Island Housing Service, the Regional Directorate for Housing and island services as well as at RIAC offices. In addition, it may be also sent via registered mail with acknowledgement of receipt or online at the address http://www.azores.gov.pt/Portal/pt/entidades/srss-drh/textoImagem/Habitacao-_Formulários_online.htm.

Requests for clarification on any questions arising from the interpretation of the tender documents should be addressed to the jury in writing until May 17.

The tender is open to all citizens residing in the Azores for at least three years, who are of legal age and are not house owners. In addition, they must provide economic and financial capacity to support the respective lease, which is stipulated in accordance with the effort rates set in rules and their socio-economic characteristics.

The 12 dwellings allocated under this tender were leased to the Region and are intended to meet the permanent housing needs of families, through a sublease scheme with purchase option. This measure is aimed at families that, despite their income, have difficulties in accessing the free housing market.

The rent will be subsidised in accordance with the proportionality of the effort rate and the status of the applicant; priority status will be awarded to young families, single-parent families or families with disabled members.

The subsidy could reach 35% of the monthly rent supported by the Region.

Last year, the Government launched two other tender procedures for the allocation of dwellings located in the same neighbourhood, representing the signing of 37 sublease agreements. This brought annual savings over 44,000 families as a result of the subsidised interest rates that are supported by the Region.
