The Regional Secretary for Health expressed his satisfaction with the prize awarded to the project presented by the Home Care Unit of Ponta Delgada Health Centre in the context of "Missão Sorriso 2012" (solidarity project that supports non-profit organisations, paediatric units and hospitals). The project was selected from over 170 applicants nationwide.

The winning work is being carried out by nurses with specialisation in Rehabilitation Nursing in the area of active ageing; it involves aspects such as the promotion of social interaction for the prevention of situations of social isolation and discrimination as well as the creation of an environment that promotes the autonomy and independence of elderly citizens.

The awarding of the prize, in the amount of 21,532 Euros, took into consideration the health gains evidenced in this project.

The Regional Secretary for Health considered that this award is "a source of pride and great satisfaction" and it "recognises the work carried out by nurses from Ponta Delgada Health Centre, with special emphasis on those who work in the Home Care Unit."

In this context, Luís Cabral conveyed his belief that this award will increase "motivation towards the service rendered to users of the Regional Health Service."
