The Regional Secretary of the Presidency stated on Tuesday that “the presence of Craig Mello, the 2006 Nobel Prize for Medicine, in the Azores is the return of a friend, whose example is a stimulus for the promotion of research and entrepreneurship.”

André Bradford spoke at the end of an audience granted to Craig Mello, stressing that the career path of this researcher, who has family roots in the Azores, “is an attractive model for young Azoreans who can realise that it is possible to put knowledge at the service of the Azores, even after they have left the Region to acquire other skills.”

The Regional Secretary emphasised the fact that Craig Mello, “despite being two generations apart,” makes a point of “visiting the Azores, helping the Azores and participating in their life at a personal and professional level, as a world-renowned researcher, which “is a great happiness for us all.”

André Bradford also stressed that the exhibition on Craig Mello’s life and work has travelled around the Azores is “a stimulus and an example to be followed by Azorean youngsters.”
