Azorean Government supports socio-cultural institutions of Azorean communities

The Government of the Azores has granted the social-cultural institutions of Azorean communities a financial aid in the amount of 165,500 Euros to support the activity plans addressed at the promotion of the civic, cultural and social participation of communities.

In an ordinance published in the Official Journal on Thursday, the Regional Secretary of the Presidency justified the allocation of these funds given the need “to implement the support and cooperation with socio-cultural institutions that promote and disseminate the Autonomous Region of the Azores among the respective emigrant communities.”

André Bradford reminded the Region’s interest “in the preservation of its identity and the dissemination of its cultural values in order to promote the knowledge of communities, strengthening ties between them and their homeland.”

The institutions comprised by these support measures are the following: House of the Azores of Rio Grande do Sul (10,000 Euros), House of the Azores of Rio de Janeiro (10,000 Euros), House of the Azores of Ontario (15,000 Euros), House of the Azores of Winnipeg (11,000 Euros), House of the Azores of Santa Catarina Island (10,000 Euros), House of the Azores of São Paulo (15,000 Euros), House of the Azores of New England (17,000 Euros), House of the Azores of Lisbon (10,000 Euros), NEA – Centre for Azorean Studies of the Federal University of Santa Catarina (13,500 Euros), Chair of Portuguese Culture of the University of Montreal (10,000 Euros), Cultural Association “Los Azorenos” in Uruguay (4,000 Euros), Working Women Community Centre (5,000 Euros) and the Portuguese American Citizenship Project (35,000 Euros).
