Regional Government amends rules of "Daniel de Sá", "António Dacosta" and "Paulo Gouveia" cultural prizes

The rules of cultural prizes "Daniel de Sá", "António Dacosta" and "Paulo Gouveia" have been amended by decision of the Council of the Government, according to the Resolutions published today in the Official Journal.

These resolutions provide that, exceptionally, the Regional Secretary for Education and Culture should appoint, up to April 15, 2016, the juries for the assessment of the works in competition under the "Daniel de Sá" Humanities Prize and "António Dacosta" Painting Prize.

As for the "Paulo Gouveia" Prize, April 18, International Day for Monuments and Sites, remains the stipulated date term to define the opening of the competition, the submission of applications, the remaining schedule and the appointment of the jury.

The "Daniel de Sá" Humanities Prize aims to distinguish, every two years (even years), an original work written in Portuguese under the ‘Azores’ theme by a national or foreign author in the essay and literary creation categories.

Applications for this Regional Prize, with a cash value of six thousand Euros for each category, must be submitted by May 27.

The "António Dacosta" Painting Prize also intends to distinguish regional artists every two years as well as of acknowledging cultural activities developed in the Azores in the field of fine arts, special emphasis on the abstract painting and figurative painting.

The submission of the works competing for this Regional Prize, with a cash value of 6000 Euros for each area, takes place until September 15 at the premises of the Regional Directorate for Culture and its external services.

The rules of "Paulo Gouveia” Regional Architecture Prize were also amended. This prize was created to distinguish the renewal and renovation projects that respect the existing building heritage and favour the use of endogenous materials, without forgetting the use of contemporary language.

It will include, every two years (even years), an intervention based on one or more of the aforementioned types of architectural intervention. The winner will receive a cash prize in the amount of 12 thousand Euros; two-thirds will be awarded to the author of the project and a third to the owner of the property.

These prizes aim to distinguish the authors and artists in the fields of Humanities, Fine Arts and Architecture, created under the new strategy for culture in the Azores. They were awarded for the first time in 2014.
