The ashes of Natália Correia and Dórdio Guimarães, which had been resting at the Pantheon of Writers in the Cemetery of Prazeres in Lisbon, have already been transferred to the island of São Miguel, where they will be deposited in an appropriate place, more specifically in the inner garden of Ponta Delgada Public Library and Regional Archive.

The Government of the Azores, through the Regional Secretariat for Education and Culture, fulfils the promise to transfer Natália Correia's ashes to S. Miguel in accordance with the authorisation signed by Helena Roseta, executor of Dórdio Leal Guimarães' will, the sole of heir of Natália Correia who died in 1997.

He was also her only heir that has left to the Regional Government, through public will, the household furnishings of Natália Correia's house, the art gallery, the book collection consisting of 10,164 works belonging to Natália Correia and 2,283 belonging to Dórdio Guimarães, manuscripts and original documents, and the collection that made up the "National Tribute to Natália Correia" exhibition.

The estate is deposited at the Ponta Delgada Public Library and Regional Archive.

The Regional Secretariat for Education and Culture will publish, in due time, the public laying of the ashes in the inner garden of Ponta Delgada Public Library and Regional Archive.

Natália Correia was born on the island of S. Miguel in 1923 and resided in Lisbon, where she died on March 16, 1993. Throughout her life, she stood out in various aspects of writing to the extent that she was a poet, playwright, novelist, essayist, translator, journalist, screenwriter and editor.

Her works have been translated into several languages, which evidence her merit and recognition at an international level. Natália Correia was the recipient of the Grand Poetry Prize 1991, an event promoted by the Portuguese Writers Association.

Awarded the Grand Order of Santiago and the Grand Order of Liberty, Natália Correia also played an active role in the national political life.

The Government of the Azores organised an itinerant exhibition in the context of the regional celebrations of the 90th anniversary of Natália Correia's birth and the 20th anniversary of her death, covering all islands of the archipelago. In addition to this event, there was also a documentary exhibition.
