Avelino Meneses stresses that ProSucesso already shows "some encouraging results"

The Regional Secretary for Education and Culture stated in Ponta Delgada that the integrated plan for the promotion of school designated as ProSucesso - Azores for Education, which is in the second year of implementation, "already shows some encouraging results, despite being a programme for the long-term."

Avelino Meneses spoke on the sidelines of the first meeting of the Coordinating Council of Education and the Standing Commission Public School Establishments this school year. He stressed that ProSucesso is the response to the "main obstacle" of the regional education system: school failure.

This programme was developed over the school year 2014/2015 after hearing Azorean schools. As recognised, Prosucesso inspired the construction of the national programme for the promotion of school success; for that reason, it is one of the topics under discussion. Moreover, the meeting will address the assessment of the school year 2015/2016 and the analysis of the current school year.

Questioned on the need for a pact of education, Avelino Meneses restated the need to reach an "understanding" that would ensure the commitment of "politics and politicians."

According to the Secretary for Education, this commitment should defy "the idea that the Government should always be on one side revealing all the progress now matter how little it is and the opposition, always on the other side, denying all progress however evident it may be."

"We need to break this cycle," Avelino Meneses said, adding that the people “deserve a credible work on the part of the Government and the responsible supervision of the opposition."
