Avelino Meneses says results achieved by secondary school students in the Azores are "encouraging"

The Regional Secretary for Education and Culture stated that the results achieved by Azorean students are "quite encouraging." The results of the 1st phase of the national secondary school exams were released today.

Avelino Meneses stressed that "the number of subjects where the average mark was positive grew in comparison to the previous year, including Math A," which "no longer happened since 2010, not even at a national level."

Commenting on the preliminary results released by the Educational Assessment Institute (IAVE), Avelino Meneses stressed that regional averages, compared to 2014, "have improved in half the subjects and the results are very close to the national average."

The Regional Secretary for Culture and Education also confirmed that the Azores are leading the national ranks in four subjects, namely English, Spanish, Math B and Design A.

"I dedicate this progress, above all, to the efforts of teachers, members of the school boards and school technicians, without ever forgetting that this is also a victory of families," said the government official.

In the future, the path will be "necessarily directed towards the consolidation of the work we have already done", but also "the launch of new educational innovation projects, such as ProSucesso.”
