According to the "Digital Repositories JISC Briefing Paper (2005), a digital repository,” a digital repository is where digital contents are stored and can be searched and retrieved for later use.
The organisational commitment towards the management of these digital materials includes long-term preservation, organisation, access and long-term distribution services.
The issues raised by these new information storage tools are not only essential for information systems such as libraries and archives, but also for distance learning, publications and record management. It is relevant for all information systems.
In this context, the initiative organised by the Ponta Delgada Public Library and Regional Archive aims to promote clarification contexts and update on technologies, standards and good practices in the creation and maintenance of repositories.
