In a joint initiative of the Presidency of the Government of the Azores, through the Regional Directorate for Culture and Música Vadia Cultural Association based on Faial, the documentary on "Chamarrita" - Não me importava morrer se houvesse guitarras no céu (I wouldn't mind dying if there were guitars in heaven) will premiere at the Lajes do Pico Municipal Auditorium on Friday, July 6, at 9:30 PM. The event will be attended by the documentary's director, Tiago Pereira.
Produced by the aforementioned Cultural Association and filmed on the islands of Pico and Faial, this work is supported by the Regional Directorate for Culture under the policies for safeguarding the Region's intangible cultural heritage.
The public presentations of the documentary will be attended by the Regional Director for Culture, Jorge Paulus Bruno, and will include a "folga da Chamarrita." It will be a space dedicated to the learning of traditional Azorean dances which also features the participation of the musicians "cantadores" and "mandadores" that participated in the documentary. This activity will be held at each presentation session, immediately after the exhibition of the documentary, starting on July 6 at the Liberdade Lajense Philharmonic Society.
The documentary will be presented with the same programme on Saturday, July 7, at Teatro Faialense in city of Horta at 9 PM and on July 14 at the premises of the Ler Devagar Bookshop in Alcântara, Lisbon, at 9:30 PM.
As part of an initiative promoted by the Música Vadia Association known as "Day of Chamarrita," the programme for the premiere will also include a traditional dance workshop conducted by Carla Gomes to take place at 3 PM.
