The Angra do Heroísmo Museum opens Saturday, July 8, the eighth edition of "Inside the Museum" exhibition at 3 PM, highlighting a series of apparatuses representing the oldest clinical laboratory in the Azores.
This set of apparatuses belonged to the physician Henrique Henriques Flores, whose collection was donated to the Angra do Heroísmo Museum in 2006. It includes instruments, appliances, equipment, furniture, books and several documents.
The opening of this exhibition includes a paper to be delivered by Francisco Maduro-Dias, who will address the importance of this donation. It represents the major development that took place in Clinical Pathology and Laboratory Medicine in the 20th century, opening the paths for treatment and cure until then unknown, as well as the pioneering spirit of Henrique Henriques Flores.
The program also offers a visit to the visiting reserve that houses this donation, organised in the manner of a typical clinical laboratory in the time of Alexander Fleming.
"Inside the Museum" is a project developed by the Angra do Heroísmo Museum, which falls within the mission to disseminate and promote the collections and thematic areas represented in its collection. It also intends to involve the community in which it is included by providing information on history, art, thought as well as on science and technology.
