Application proposal of "Fajãs" of S. Jorge to Unesco Biosphere Reserve under public consultation until August 15

The application proposal of "Fajãs" of S. Jorge to Unesco Biosphere Reserve will be under public consultation from today until August 15. The respective forms are available at the electronic address http://www.azores.gov .com / Gra / srrn-nature / contents / news / 2015 / July / not20150710.htm.

This proposal can also be consulted on paper form at S. Jorge Environmental Services, Calheta and Velas Town Halls and at the Regional Directorate for the Environment in Horta.

The application project, developed according to the contents and structure set out in the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Application Form, is an initiative of the Government of Azores, through the Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Environment. It is being carried out by the Regional Directorate for the Environment.

Biosphere Reserves comprise areas of terrestrial, coastal and marine ecosystems or a combination of them. They are internationally recognised by UNESCO under the programme "Man and the Biosphere"(MAB) with the aim of promoting and demonstrating a balanced relation between the Human Beings and Nature.

The active and conscious participation of all parties involved, whether they are legal persons or individuals, plays an active role in the preparation, presentation and approval of this application.

Hence, all those who are interested may participate by providing their contribution on the form available on the Internet or on paper.
