Angra do Heroísmo ,  May 19, 2020

Press release from the Regional Health Authority

The Regional Health Authority reports that the 529 tests conducted by the two laboratories of reference in the Azores did not detect any positive case of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours.

Regarding active positive cases, there are two new cases of recovery from infection with SARS-CoV-2 on the island of Faial, corresponding to two males aged 38 and 43.

The second laboratory test carried out on the case diagnosed on the island of São Miguel last Monday, May 18, concerning a 40-year-old female, was negative.

However, since the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus has an unpredictable behaviour, appropriate preventive measures have been adopted and a new test will be carried out within 48 hours.

As of now, 146 positive cases for infection with the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, which causes the COVID-19 disease, have been identified in the Region, with 110 recovered cases, 16 deaths and 20 active cases: 16 on São Miguel Island, one on Graciosa Island and three on Pico Island.

Pandemic prevention and containment measures should be maintained and reinforced, whenever possible, by citizens, private and social organisations, and by the social sector.
The information on the COVID-19 pandemic will be updated today at 4 pm, through a press conference to be held at the headquarters of the Regional Health Secretariat at Solar dos Remédios in Angra do Heroísmo.

The Regional Health Authority reiterates the need to comply with all recommendations already made public in this regard, especially that, in case of symptoms, patients should not seek a Hospital or Health Unit, but rather call the Azores Health Line - 808 24 60 24.
