Members of the Regional Government welcomed on Tuesday nearly fifty São Jorge citizens in the first of two meetings to be held under the Government's statutory visit to the island of São Jorge. This initiative is intended to hear the local population on matters they consider relevant.
With these meetings, unprecedented in statutory visits, the Regional Government aims to establish a closer contact with the population of each island in the context of a proximity policy that will be pursued in the statutory visits to be made over the next four years.
The first meeting took place on Tuesday and was attended by the Regional Secretary for Social Solidarity, Regional Secretary for Natural Resources and the Regional Secretary for Education, Science and Culture.
A second meeting is scheduled for Wednesday; the Regional Secretary for Tourism and Transport and the Regional Secretary for Health will hear São Jorge citizens at the Calheta Basic Education and Secondary School.
