Carlos César participates in the General Assembly of CPMR in Aberdeen, Scotland
The President of the Government, Carlos César, will participate in the part, between the next September 29 and October 1, at the 38th General Assembly of the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions (CPMR), held this year in the city of Aberdeen in Scotland, United Kingdom.
The CPMR is a European inter-regional cooperation body under which Carlos César was elected President of the Islands Commission last May, his oldest commission geography. The President of the Azorean Government is also a member of the CPMR Board - the Political Bureau - on behalf of the Outermost Regions and also of the Islands Commission.
In this context, Carlos César will preside over the meeting of the Islands Commission on September 29 to be attended by governmental representatives from 24 European islands, representing a total of approximately 13.5 million citizens from Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Italy, Malta, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and the UK. Moreover, the President of the Government will also participate in the works of the General Assembly of the CPMR, whose agenda includes issues, such as the Treaty of Lisbon, the Europe 2020 Strategy, the future of Cohesion and Regional Policies, the Research and Development Programme or the Integrated Maritime Policy. The 2010Work Plan for, the Medium-Term Guidelines for 2010-2014 and the revision of CPRM Statutes are some of the internal under discussion.
In addition to the participation of the Presidents and representatives of the maritime regions of Europe, the meeting will also be attended by the European Commissioner for Regional Policy, Johannes Hahn, the European Commissioner for Fisheries and Maritime Affairs, Maria Dasmanaki, the Six-month Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, Philippe Suinen and the President of the Committee of the Regions, Mercedes Bresso. The elections for the Presidency of the CPMR and the appointment of new members for the Political Bureau will also take place at the 38th General Assembly.
