The President of the Government received today the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces at a meeting during which Vasco Cordeiro had the opportunity of being informed about the importance that General Luís Araújo has attached to the mission conducted by the Armed Forces in the Autonomous Region of the Azores.

"It is of common knowledge that the Armed Forces render an important service to our Region," stressed Vasco Cordeiro after the audience for the exchange of farewell greetings that was held in Ponta Delgada.

According to the President of the Government, the importance of this mission should be recognized, not only when such action becomes more necessary and useful, but also when "we are honouring the work and effort the Armed Forces have undertaken here."

"This was also an opportunity to strengthen the understanding with the Government of the Azores as well as to highlight the importance attached by Armed Forces to their mission in the Region, which, in turn, has contributed to the recognition of their relevance on the part of the Azorean population," said the government official.
