President of the Government inaugurates Interpretation Centre of the Capelinhos Volcano
The president of the Government, Carlos César, inaugurates, on 17th, the Interpretation Centre of the Capelinhos Volcano, equipment that recuperates the partially buried by the ashes lighthouse of the eruption registered 50 years ago in the island of Faial.
Besides the spaces of the ancient lighthouse, the new structure, which represented an investment of nearly six million euros, holds several rooms where the visitors will be able to notice the dimension of the most recent volcano that reached land in the Azores.
The interpretative centre includes, namely, a big room with a shaft that symbolizes a volcanic eruption - starting point for other spaces with permanent and itinerant exhibitions about volcanism - and an auditorium for 60 people.
To guarantee conditions to an elevated search of the new equipment, the Executive has current, on the other side, the project of repaving of the access to the zone of the volcano; an investment budgeted for nearly a million euros.
