Government of the Azores appoints Vasco Paulos as new President of the Regional Wine Commission

Following the resignation of Paulo Machado, who ceases duties for personal reasons, the Regional Secretary for Agriculture and Forestry appointed Vasco Paulos as the new President of the Regional Wine Commission of the Azores (CVR-Açores).
 
Vasco Paulos graduated in Agronomic Engineering, with a specialisation in Phytotechnology and a sub-specialisation in Plant Production, at the Higher Institute of Agronomy of the Technical University of Lisbon.
 
Since December 2003, he has held the position of senior technician at the Agrarian Development Services of Pico. He has headed the Viticulture and Oenology sector since 2004, having exercised functions as controller in the PRORURAL and PROAMA programmes and as Phytosanitary inspector. He was also in charge of monitoring Plant Health Products.
 
As for other relevant professional experience in the area, he was a member of the jury of the Tasting Panel of the Regional Wine Commission and coordinated the Regional Oenology Laboratory.
 
He also served as Director of the Agrarian Development Services of Pico and has held the position of Head of Pico Forest Service Division since 2013.
 
The Regional Wine Commission of the Azores became an association on August 22, 1995 and is headquartered on the island of Pico.
 
It is a private association composed of representatives of wine production and trade sectors in the Autonomous Region of the Azores and a representative of the Regional Government.
 
CVR-Açores is in charge of controlling the production, trade and certification of wine products entitled to bear the designation of DO (Denomination of Origin) and GI (Geographical Indication). This association aims to ensure the authenticity and quality of wines, the promotion and control of wine, the definition of its production process as well as the internal and external defence of certified wines.
