The Regional Directorates for Health and Sport are going to support the festival “Epicentro-Festival de Actividade” (Epicentre – Activities Festival) taking place in the city of Angra do Heroísmo on the 29th, 30th and 31st of May.
This initiative, which takes place in Monte Brasil, is led by a private company that organises physical education initiatives. The event was presented on Monday at a press conference in the Regimental Post Number 1 of that city. The Regional Director for Health attended the event.
Speaking at the event, the Regional Secretary for Health, Sofia Duarte, underlined the importance of these kind of events for the promotion of good health practices and emphasised that physical inactivity causes cardiovascular diseases and diabetes.
The Regional Director for Health said that this initiative, given the number of people, children and adults, that it attracted is “ an important event in the promotion of healthy life-styles” and that, for this reason, deserves the support of the Regional Government.
The programme of the event is designed to provide access to diverse physical activities for all ages and the organisers believe that it is ideal for families.
On the first day, the festival celebrates the World Day of Children and, as a consequence, it will provide 30 diverse activities for more than one thousand children that will participate in the event.
On the following day, other activities will be organised, such as hikes, cycling, canoeing, cross-country, jet-ski trips and sailing, among others. Once these activities end, participants meet at Monte Brasil for a picnic and to attend a concert.
On the last day of the festival, there will be more than 5o activities, with diverse games in which teams of four to six players participate. Thereafter, there will be a barbeque and singing contest before the attribution of the medals, which will end the second Epicentre festival.
