The President of the Government of the Azores considered the investment in the Graciosa Resort & Business Hotel, which was opened this morning, as “a basic and essential investment that will indubitably have a significant reproductive effect,” because it is associated to other investments in infrastructures connected to the tourist activity on Graciosa, such as the Carapacho thermal baths.
Carlos César, who demonstrated his satisfaction regarding the implementation of this infrastructure, is sure that the operation of the new hotel “has brought to Graciosa a new capacity, another dimension, as well as another quality regarding the response that the island can provide, being now included in the regional tourist routes.”
For the President of the Regional Government, the advantages of the operation of the most recent accomodation unit in the Azores are not restricted to the promotion of Graciosa as a tourist destination. They also reinforce and boost the economic activity on the island, creating jobs and fostering the activities connected to this economic sector.
“It is important that these investments take place, but it is especially important that they be pondered and included in a global strategy,” said Carlos César. For that reason, the President added that Government will start the Strategic Plan for the Cohesion of the Azores this year, in accordance with what is established in its own Programme.
It is “another strategic and operational tool that will enable, as we have done here on Graciosa, the planned introduction of assets that will positively discriminate the smaller islands, identifying, supporting and encouraging the new segments of the economic activity on all these islands.”
The new four-star hotel has 120 beds, a restaurant for 100 people, a swimming pool and various services related to its category, having cost seven million Euros. It will be managed by the INATEL in a joint partnership with a group of Azorean businesspeople.
