Fishing industry in Cohesion Islands benefit from supplementary economic assistance
Costs incurred in the market placement of fresh fish captured in the islands of Santa Maria, S.Jorge, Garciosa, Flores and Corvo will henceforth benefit from a supplementary economic assistance of 40 cents per kilogram, in accordance with a decision of the Regional Government of the Azores that will be promulgated this Friday.
The Governmental decision to reinforce economic assistance for the market placement of fresh fish that originates in the Cohesion Islands also includes tuna destined for transformation, which will receive an extra 10 cents per kilogram.
This assistance will be applied to the 2008 fishing harvest. Its purpose is to enhance the competitiveness to the fishery sector in islands where there are additional transportation costs.
The financing of this policy is assured in and by the implementation of the Regional Annual Investment Plan.
