Children and youngsters from Ribeira Grande open Christmas Tree of the Presidency of the Government
Nearly one hundred children and youngsters opened the Christmas Tree of the Presidency of the Government of the Azores in a Christmas gathering with the President of the Government and his family that took place at Sant'Ana Palace in Ponta Delgada on Sunday afternoon.
This activity was attended by children, youngsters and adults covered by the services of the "Santa Casa da Misericórdia" of Ribeira Grande, including the Playroom, Day Nursery and Kindergarten, Free Time Occupation Centre, Occupational Activity Centre, Senior Networks as well as the "Espaço Extremo" and "CDIJovem" projects.
"I these challenging times, a period such as Christmas, which is grounded in the hope for a better world, should naturally be a time to help building a better Azores within our possibilities," stressed Vasco Cordeiro.
The President of the Government also wished that this Christmas be also an opportunity to "revitalise ourselves with the hope of continuing to undertake the effort of making our Region an even better place."
The opening of the Christmas Tree lights was followed by the performance of the Castanets players from the village of Rabo de Peixe and several Christmas carols performed by children and youngsters. The Christmas gathering ended with the traditional exchange of gifts.
