The President of the Regional Government of the Azores, Carlos César, will participate in the 16th Conference of Presidents of Outermost Regions to take place in Santa Cruz de Tenerife in the Canary Islands on October 27 and 28.
The agenda includes the opening session on October 27 in which, in addition to the speeches delivered by the Presidents of ORs and the approval of Tenerife Declaration, an addendum to the Cooperation Protocol between the Outermost Regions to join to works of the Region of Saint Martin will also be signed. This French region has recently become an Outermost Region of the European Union, following the approval of the Treaty of Lisbon, and its President, Frantz Gumbs, has requested the formal integration in the Conference of Presidents of the ORs.
There will also be a partnership session with the EU Commission which will count upon the participation of the European Commissioner for Regional Policy, Johannes Hahn, as well as the representatives of the Governments of Portugal, France, Spain, the Belgian Presidency of the European Union and the Prime Minister of Cape Verde, José Maria Neves.
After the final works of the 16th Conference of Presidents of the ORs, the region of Martinique will take over the presidency, being in charge of the coordination of Conference until October 11 when Carlos César will take over the presidency of this European cooperation body that comprises outermost regions of Azores and Madeira (Portugal), the Canary Islands (Spain), Reunion, Guyana, Martinique, Guadalupe and Saint Martin (France).
