Carlos César assures the reinforcement of accessibility to Nordeste and provides support to social housing and to cover the damages caused by adverse weather conditions
“There is no village in the municipality of Nordeste that is more than five minutes from the main axis of the toll-free road,” This was the commitment made by the President of the Government in Nordeste on Thursday, thus ensuring the reinforcement of accessibility in that municipality with the ongoing construction of the toll-free road on the North coast of São Miguel, from Ribeira Grande to Nordeste, which will bring the latter municipality closer to the major population centres of the island.
Hence, Carlos César assured the quick access of Salga, Santana and Santo António Nordestinho to the toll-free road, though these villages do not have direct access to the main axis. “The road ends at the west entrance of the Vila do Nordeste and we are undertaking a major road project according to this plan. For us this matter is temporarily closed and will only be changed in view of an unexpected situation.”
The President of the Government spoke after a meeting between the Council of the Government and the Nordeste Town Hall, thus carrying on the initiative to meet with all town and city halls from São Miguel, Terceira and Faial, the islands which are not covered by statutory visits.
The Government of the Azores promised to award 600 thousand Euros to the Nordeste Town Hall to support the costs resulting from damages caused by adverse weather conditions in the municipality.
Building a new indoor sports infrastructure in Nordeste was another decision taken at the meeting as well as the approval of social housing support. In this context, a survey for the construction of a neighbourhood in Salga is already taking place and the construction of 17 houses in the village of Achadinha is at a final phase.
