The applications for vocational training and higher education scholarships to be granted by the Regional Government for the courses held in 2011/2012 will be open during the month of September. The application period for scholarships for this school year (2012/2013) will take place in October.

A total of 46 scholarships will be granted (23 for each school year) for higher education courses in the following areas: Medicine, Electrical Engineering and Electronics, Electronic Engineering and Computer Network, Electronic Engineering and Telecommunications, Chemical Engineering, Chemical and Biological Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Management, Port Management, Leisure Management and Tourism Animation. The scholarships also comprise vocational training courses in the areas of Naval Mechanics, Naval Electricity, Metalworking and Hydrotherapy Technician.

These courses were selected taking into account their employability, the needs of companies and the unemployment rate. Furthermore, several entities were heard on the awarding of scholarships, including the Regional Monitoring Commission for Employment Measures and the Permanent Commission for Parliamentary Affairs, Environment and Labour of the Regional Legislative Assembly as well as social partners through the Permanent Commission of the Regional Strategic Concertation Council.
