The President of the Government visited today the construction works of the new slaughterhouse on Faial Island. This is a five-million Euro investment that falls within the strategy to boost the competitiveness of the meat sector and, consequently, increase producers' income.
 
"This infrastructure is part of the Region's Investment Plan. It also includes the ongoing construction of the slaughterhouse on the island of Graciosa and the rehabilitation interventions in the slaughterhouses on the islands of São Miguel and Terceira. These interventions amount to 15 million Euros," said Vasco Cordeiro.
 
After announcing that the new slaughterhouse on Faial should enter into operation in the second half of 2018, the President of the Government stressed that these investments are closely related to the "very evident dynamics" of the regional meat sector.
 
"In 2017, exports grew over 20 percent compared to 2014 and, in this regard, Faial was one of the islands that contributed the most to this growth," said Vasco Cordeiro. As he assured, the Government "is paying special attention as to how this sector may be better prepared for increased demands in competitiveness and, therefore, for higher producers' income."
 
"The Regional Strategy Centre for Azores Meat is one of the examples that demonstrates the congregation of several players in this sector with the aim of define and implement measures that can reinforce its competitiveness," stressed the President of the Government.
