Praia da Vitória ,  July 27, 2018

"Terceira Tech Island" is already huge success in job and business creation

The Vice-President of the Government highlighted in Praia da Vitória the tremendous success of "Terceira Tech Island" project in attracting companies to Terceira Island as well as in providing advanced training in computer programming with great potential for employability.

The "Terceira Tech Island project is an excellent and solid reality," said Sérgio Ávila at the closing session of the second programming course, an initiative involving more than 20 participants. On the occasion, the government added that the "success in the integration of the first 20 students" and the interest of companies in programmers "demonstrates this success."

"The interest on the part of the companies in programmers demonstrates that we are on the right track," the Vice-President stressed, pointing out the ability of the project to attract companies to Terceira Island in the programming area.

"I can say that we have six national and international companies already installed or in the process of being installed. They will need the human resources we are training and have also demonstrated that they need many more human resources," said the government official.

"At this point, this is not a matter of finding a job," the Vice-President stated, considering that, contrary to normal market logic, the Terceira Tech Island has managed to get "companies looking for our trainees instead of trainees look for companies." In this context, he announced the beginning of the third advanced training course in computer programming for another 40 trainees scheduled for September.

"We are going to start doubling the number of students we will train every four months from September onwards," the government official said, adding that registrations for the next course are open until August 18.

The Azorean Government expects that the market will absorb 80 programmer in 2018 and that there will be 200 programmers employed in companies headquartered on Terceira Island by 2019.

"What we have defined as a strategic goal and one of the main projects to create an alternative to the reduction of Lajes Base activity is nowadays a huge success," said the government official.

"Terceira Tech Island is a hugely successful project with a high degree of employability. It is an opportunity to invest on a successful career," reinforced the Vice-President of the Government.
