Regional Government supports companies providing training to workers in periods of lower activity

The Regional Government, through the Vice-Presidency, has created the Extraordinary Qualification Measure (MEQ), which consists of financial support to companies and their workers through the development of training plans.

This new measure contributes to the creation of additional support for companies. It aims to reinforce the training of workers who are not laid off but are experiencing reduced activity, which will maintain the viability of companies.

Published today in the Official Journal, this measure will provide workers with the opportunity to benefit from specific training in periods of lower activity, thus promoting their personal enhancement and the improvement of their professional skills.

Hence, workers attending training initiatives held under the Extraordinary Qualification Measure plan will receive an amount of up to 50% of their gross monthly salary, which cannot exceed the regional minimum wage.

This training plan has an implementation period of one month and a workload that cannot exceed 50% of the normal working period. It is directed to private companies, including those in the social sector, which are not beneficiaries of the layoff scheme but are experiencing significant reduction in activity at this stage.

To benefit from this support measure, companies must submit their application to the Regional Directorate for Employment and Vocational Training (DREQP) by filling out a form and email it to The application period takes place between May 15 and June 30.

The Regional Government remains committed to promoting measures to support companies with a view to increasing labour stability, especially at a time when the business fabric is likely to suffer disruptions in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This is another form of support made available by the Regional Government in the context of the exceptional responses implemented in the Region with the aim of complementing and reinforcing the scope of the national economic measures created to face the pandemic.
The Regional Government thus contributes, with this measure, to raising the level of qualification of regional workers and, consequently, to increasing the competitiveness of companies and maintaining employment.
