Ponta Delgada ,  January 27, 2015

Number of unemployed registered at regional employment centres dropped 11.7 percent

According to the latest data released by the Employment and Vocational Training Institute of the National Government, the number of unemployed registered at regional employment centres dropped 11.7 percent over the previous year.

The data also shows that there were less 1,547 registered unemployed in the Azores compared to 2013.
"We welcome the reduction in the number of registered unemployed at employment centres. In the end of 2014, there were 11,666 registered unemployed while the number of unemployed stood at 13,208 in the same period of time in 2013," said the President of the Government of the Azores.

However, Sérgio Ávila noted that these data are regarded by the Government "with moderate satisfaction."

"While there is still an unemployed Azorean, we will do everything, within the reach of our resources and powers, to provide a response to the 11,666 Azoreans registered at unemployment centres," said the government official.

For Sérgio Ávila, "the reduction registered over the last year, which was further evidenced by these data, indicates that we are following the right path in terms of active employment policies to enhance the employability of Azorean workers."

According to the Vice-President of the Government, this is "a top priority" area that the Government will continue to develop in 2015 so that this downward trend "may be consistent, sustainable and bring better results this year."
