More than 550 ideas presented under second edition of the Participatory Budget of the Azores
The Vice-President of the Government congratulated the Azoreans for their strong commitment to the Participatory Budget of the Azores, which promotes participatory democracy and the involvement of citizens in decision-making on the application of public funds. As in the previous edition, various ideas for public investments to be implemented by the Government on the nine islands of the archipelago have emerged in an easy and direct way.
In phase 1, the presentation of ideas for the second edition of the Participatory Budget of the Azores, the Azoreans responded very positively to the invitation made by the Regional Government. Between February 22 and April the government official concerns the creation of a new area, Culture, and the possibility of presenting regional projects. In addition to the ideas presented for the islands, each citizen is entitled to vote twice: one vote for regional scope projects and a vote for island scope projects.
With regard to themes, 251 ideas were presented in the area of Youth, 92 in Tourism, 72 in Culture, 71 in Social Inclusion and 66 ideas in the Environment.
As for their scope, 428 proposals are island projects while the remaining 124 are regional projects.
Among the 428 island scope proposals, 153 were submitted on São Miguel, 64 on Terceira, 60 on Pico, 41 on São Jorge, 33 on Faial, 27 on Flores, 26 on Graciosa, 16 on Santa Maria and the remaining eight on Corvo.
Compared to the first edition of the Participatory Budget of the Azores, there were an increase of 225 proposals as well as an increase of around 500 participants.
By the end of June, the technical analysis of the 552 draft proposals submitted will be carried out by the Regional Government's July 1 at https://op.azores.gov.pt.
