Economic activity in the Azores is growing, says Sérgio Ávila

The Vice-President of the Government stated today that the economic activity in the Azores indicator "registered in February the highest figure of the last 26 months," rejecting the interpretation of the economic and social situation of the Azores that was given by the main opposition party at the Legislative Assembly.

"According to the data revealed by the National Government, the number of registered unemployed in the Azores is substantially lower than the national average. The number of registered unemployed reached its lowest value of the last 27 months. It has been reducing consecutively and steadily over the last 11 months, compared to the same month of the previous year," said Sérgio Ávila.

The Vice-President of the Government also highlighted the data released by the National Statistics Institute, according to which "the Gross Domestic Product of the Azores has resumed its growth, while the country has not shown a positive variation yet."

Moreover, Sérgio Ávila stressed that "the disposable income of households was, according to the latest data, significantly higher than the national average." The data also reveal that "the Azores were the region of the country that recorded the highest reduction of early school dropout."

The government official also mentioned the data released by the INE and the Bank of Portugal concerning the year 2014, according to which, "the Azores were the region of the country that achieved the best results in the field of public finances."

"If this is what annoys and irritates PSD, we want to say that will continue to give account of what we did and did not do as well as of what we did well and the aspects that can be further improved," assured Sérgio Ávila.

"Our relation with the Azorean citizens is based on trust and truth and, above all, on the belief that together we can do more and better," said the Vice-President of the Government.
