433 new job vacancies provided to young Azoreans under Open Days - Youth Employment initiative

The Vice-President of the Government announced in Ponta Delgada the provision of 433 new job vacancies under the Open Days - Youth Employment initiative on the nine islands of the Azores.

Speaking at the opening session, Sérgio Ávila pointed out that these new employment opportunities "demonstrate that companies have responded very positively" to the goals set out by this initiatives and that "we owe them the merit of trust in the economy and future of the Azores."

The Vice-President of the Government stressed that "the entry of young people into the labour market is a huge challenge." Hence, this event is not just an initiative to disseminate the employment measures promoted by the Government, it also gives "shape to the efforts we have undertaken in terms of employment policies."

In his speech, the government official emphasised the idea that "employment is driven by the dynamics of economic activity." On the occasion, he stressed that companies are the pillar of employment creation in the Azores, where their situation has no parallel in the national context in terms of incentive systems to support companies for the investment and employment creation."

The path followed "with the thousands of jobs created" is not the sole goal of the Government's policies," stated Sérgio Ávila. In this regard, he added that "it is also an incentive for those who have not yet a job, a stable job or a well-paid paid may succeed in their aspirations."

According to the Vice-President, the search for new solutions "depends on the Government within the scope of employment promotion measures, depends on companies and also depends on younger generations, who must have an entrepreneurial spirit and the perception that the world is evolving very quickly."

The process of globalisation requires that the Azores be competitive on a global scale, so it is necessary to "compete with the world and be as good or better than everyone else."

Sérgio Ávila also stressed that "as long as there is an unemployed Azorean, this is a challenge that the Regional Government must overcome."
