Terceira and São Miguel Technological Parks to Feature Competitive Intelligence Centres

The Regional Secretary of Science, Technology and Equipment announced today afternoon that the Terceira and São Miguel Technological Parks will feature competitive intelligence centres.

At a time when the construction of the facilities is taking place, the introduction of modules and contents at the technological parks, such as the competitive intelligence centres, is also becoming a reality.

José Contente, who spoke after a meeting with Alfredo Passos, world-renowned speaker in the field of competitive intelligence, said that “this module is already defined in the project, and we now have an expert in this area working with us who, with his experience and knowledge, can help us during this initial phase, because he knows the routes that have been taken in other countries and the mistakes that were made, so we do not repeat them.”

Speaking to journalists, the secretary stressed that there is a number of situations that should be prepared with competitive intelligence, so businesses and the scientific community can participate in an active and committed way in ensuring good outcomes and indicators for the regional economy.

With the expertise of Alfred Steps – the first professional in Latin America to receive the Catalyst Award from the Society of Competitive Intelligence Professionals and author of several books in this area – the regional strategy will be to analyse all projects “before starting certain investments or evaluating the best investments to be made in the Azores, so we can know in advance the advantages and disadvantages of introducing certain ideas and what their results will be,” said José Contente.

The new ideas that may be generated by these Competitive Intelligence Centres will impact the whole Azorean economy and will be replicated on the various islands and businesses; “we want to improve the economy and give more opportunities to people in terms of youth employment, and secure our cohesive and sustainable development,” added the secretary.
