Regional Government invested 1.4 million Euros in landscape enhancement along roads, stresses Ana Cunha

The Regional Secretary for Transport and Public Works stated today that the Regional Government has invested 1.4 million Euros this year in the landscape enhancement of the areas adjacent to regional roads. The amount was three times than that invested in 2017, which was around 500 thousand Euros.

Ana Cunha spoke at the end of a visit to the construction works of the parking area near Lagoa do Fogo lake and Barrosa viewpoints on the island of São Miguel. She stressed that "this investment will slightly increase in 2019," reaching 1.5 million Euros.

For the Regional Secretary, "it is worth pointing out that most of these interventions are carried out with the direct resources from the Public Works department. They are specifically allocated to these areas, especially to the cleaning and landscaping of roads throughout the year," giving shape to the concept of "road garden."

The construction area of the car park next to Lagoa do Fogo lake viewpoint is currently being prepared with the resources from the Public Works department. The construction of the park and the changes to the layout of the regional road in order to anticipate the existing curve and open the current one for access to the future viewpoint will be carried out by the company Tecnovia-Açores. This investment of 130 thousand Euros has a completion period of 90 consecutive days and is expected to be completed before the end of the year.

Ana Cunha emphasised the improvements brought by several works, some already completed and others in progress, to several viewpoints in the management of traffic and visiting conditions in these emblematic sites. This year, "everything went very well as far as people are receptive to the guidance provided by Public Works employees. In fact, we have mitigated the constraints arising from the growing demand and the increased flow of vehicles to these areas observed in previous years."

The Regional Secretary for Transport and Public Works also noted that the interventions carried out on the island of São Miguel "provided an adequate response and eliminated parking constraints."
