Procedure for rehabilitation of Horta Port already launched

The Government of the Azores has just launched, through the company Portos dos Açores, the procedure for the renewal of Horta Commercial Port. The announcement of the international call for tenders was sent today, September 26, for publication in the Official Journal of the Region, the Official Gazette and the Official Journal of the European Union.

The contract work represents the fulfilment of a commitment made by the Azorean Government and is included in the Regional Public Works Charter. The intervention has a base price that exceeds 14 million Euros and a completion period of 30 months, following the awarding of the contract work.

The works include the construction of infrastructures designed to protect the inner basin, namely two parallel breakwater jetties with capacity for partial berthing on both sides to be built apart from each other.

One of the jetties will be rooted in the south top of the "control dock" in the south basin of the marina of Horta at 110 metres and -6 metres deeps (HZ). In turn, the other jetty will be rooted in the "South-Beta dock" (commercial dock) at 140 metres long, 10 metres wide and -4/-6 metres deep (HZ).

The first of these jetties is designed to protect the entire port basin from rough sea, while the second, in addition to having the same purpose, is also intended to support the operations of local coastal vessels.

Moreover, the intervention includes the installation of a fuel filling station in the second jetty to supply vessels calling at Horta Port as well as those registered at this port.

This contract work includes the construction of an embankment, located at the beginning of the "South-Beta dock" for dry docking, minor repairs and maintenance of vessels. The installation of the technical network and the fencing of the entire service perimeter are also part of the works.

Moreover, the contract work comprises the expansion of the access to the new embankment and the respective fencing in the warehouse and port management areas as well as the construction of support building for port activities in the area known as "Santa Cruz Pier."

The intervention contains procedures for the renewal of general technical networks of the port, including the construction of a storage area for water supply to vessels, the respective pumping station, the installation of a firefighting network, the increase in capacity of electric power transformation substations, the installation of standby generators and the replacement of degraded electrical installations.
