José Contente challenges local authorities to replace shows for social emergency measures

The Regional Secretary for Science, Technology and Infrastructures encouraged local authorities to invest in social emergency measures instead of shows.

José Contente challenged local authorities for their close contact with the community to join the government in the implementation of social support measures even if this implies sacrificing other investments, particularly shows. In this context, the government official stated "that this is a good way to improve our response to the problems of citizens who are facing difficult times."

The Regional Secretary presided over the opening of the seminar "The certification of social responses," promoted by ACEESA Association - Centre for Atlantic Solidarity Economy Studies, stressing the importance of the work undertaken by Azorean social solidarity institutions. The government official recognised their contribution to the community by helping the Region to "go another step further in the construction of social justice, something difficult to achieve; however, it would be even more difficult to achieve without hard work, effort and the notion of modernity associated to social responses."

Addressing at students, José Contente underlined the amount "of creativity and sensitivity that each one of you evidence in your work on a daily basis, often responding to challenges with your hearts rather than with reason," as sometimes science and scientific training are not sufficient to effectively respond to the needs and difficulties.

The Regional Secretariat for Science, Technology and Infrastructures, as a partner of ACEESA in this training course, will continue to support the organisation of scientific events that "enhance the quality of responses provided in the Azores," specifically in the case of solidarity economy "that promotes tolerance and social responsibility."

"In the context of scientific dissemination, it is important that these initiatives may enhance the qualification of organisations as well as of those who are in the field every day and who need to provided with increasingly qualified tools in order to have a more effective action, achieving tangible results," emphasised the Regional Secretary.
