Investing in young entrepreneurs is “synonymous of great innovations,” says José Contente

The Regional Secretary for Science, Technology and Infrastructures presided over the delivery ceremony of the Quality Management System Compliance Certificate to the company Cybermap, the first to receive certification in the area of information and communication technologies.

José Contente praised the company from São Miguel which has boosted skilled jobs, employing many youngsters. “Cybermap has proved its strength – the strength of youth – but also of creativity and innovation. Every day, the company’s employees are contributing to the creation of the modern Azores, bringing them is closer to ideas and competitiveness.”

The Government official said that with the investment in skilled jobs as well as in the ideas of youngsters, companies are thriving in the current market. The companies operating in the information and communication technologies sector contribute to the development of the Azores as they acknowledge that regional sustainability is not only dependent on the traditional economic sectors, but also on sectors linked to the knowledge economy.

The Regional Secretary, who delivered the first prize of the ideas competition, promoted by Cybermap, praised the company’s entrepreneurial initiative and highlighted that with examples such as this one “we have managed to innovate and create something new. It is an innovation to distinguish its employees as they have been able to create new things, which not only upgrades the company but also helps it to create specific solutions for efficiency and profitability issues of the business world, bringing added value to the Region.”

The Government has been promoting research and development projects in business context and, in this context; we need to be aware that transferring knowledge, through the university and some high-end companies, to other companies is the right path to create new things.”

Furthermore, the Regional Secretary stressed the contribution of skilled youngsters in companies because “great inventions come from good ideas,” and youngsters, who are educated according to a new global and competitive dynamics, are the ones that contribute the most to the renewal of ideas as well as to new business solutions.

Nevertheless, digital culture should be extended to other Azorean islands because it is through these signs “that we will reach the new phases of this economy, which is very demanding, but necessary,” thus, these areas need skilled jobs and companies that make money with this type of activity.

The Regional Secretary also said that the Government is honoured to be one the first public partners to join Cybermap, giving confidence and credibility to the company with which it has developed joint projects in the area of information and communication technologies and geographic information.
