Government launches this year 23 procedures for the rehabilitation works of the regional road network

The Government of the Azores, through the Regional Secretariat for Tourism and Transport, will launch this year 23 procedures for the rehabilitation works of several road sections across the archipelago.

The decision of the Council of the Government, published in the Official Journal today, plans to launch 20 procedures during the first half of 2015 and three in the second semester, representing a total investment of 20 million Euros.

The works to be carried out are planned in the regional public investment planning tools, such as the Regional Plan and the Regional Public Works Charter. They are intended to improve the safety and efficiency of the regional road network.

The list of contract works whose procedures will be launched this year includes the following interventions: the renewal of the regional road section between Arrebentão and Vigia da Areia in São Lourenço, Santa Maria; the construction of the access road to the Fisheries Port in Vila Franca do Campo, the renewal of road section between the municipalities of Povoação and Nordeste, the section between Garcias and Água Retorta, São Miguel; the renewal and improvement of the regional road section in São Brás and Lajes and the external bypass in Angra do Heroísmo, Terceira.

There are also other interventions planned for this year, including the rehabilitation and improvement of a road section between Limeira and Porto Afonso, Graciosa; the renewal and improvement of a road section on the Regional Road 1-2 between the airport and Ribeira do Almeida, São Jorge; the renewal and redevelopment of a road section on the Regional Road 3-2, Pico; the rehabilitation and improvement of Avenida Príncipe Alberto do Mónaco, Faial.

In addition to these interventions, the list comprises the contract works for the renewal of a section on the Regional Road 1-2 between Ferros Velhos and Ponta Delgada, Flores; the stabilisation of the slopes on the Regional Road 1-2, the interventions in the road section between Lomba do Pico João de Moura and Lomba do Galvão, and between Lomba do Rodias and Pico João de Moura, Corvo.
