Angra do Heroísmo ,  September 15, 2016

Terceira Island has good capacity in social responses directed to the elderly, says Andreia Cardoso

The Regional Secretary for Social Solidarity stated today that the municipality of Angra do Heroísmo, like the island of Terceira, in general, stand above the minimum coverage rates in terms of social responses for the elderly.

Andreia Cardoso spoke on the sidelines of a visit to the rehabilitation works of Jesus, Maria, José Shelter, a Government's investment of about two million Euros intended to enhance this social response for 54 elderly women. The government official highlighted the Regional Government's commitment to the development and adaptation of facilities targeted to this age group.

The Regional Secretary stressed that one of the work's priorities concerns the improvement of the building's accessibility, adding that this is the full rehabilitation of an existing structure" with the purpose of "adapting it to the demands of today and its functions it is meant to serve."

Andreia Cardoso also stressed that this intervention, included in the Regional Public Works Charter, is also "an important contribution to the preservation of the city's building heritage."
