Angra do Heroísmo ,  August 26, 2020

Regional Government continues to promote access to home ownership on Terceira Island, says Andreia Cardoso

The Regional Secretary for Social Solidarity stated in Angra do Heroísmo that the Regional Government remains committed to developing differentiated procedures and strategies to promote the construction of housing in the various neighbourhoods and publicly-owned plots of land, thus facilitating the access of families to building plots at symbolic prices.

Andreia Cardoso spoke at the signing ceremony of the deeds under the public tender for the transfer of building plots lots in the São Brás neighbourhood, municipality of Praia da Vitória, with the three families who applied for this tender held in July.

“We have started a campaign for the transfer of building plots at symbolic prices in a public tender covering all islands of the archipelago, which already has 143 plots put to tender," said the government official.

According to him, this campaign complements the Regional Government's decision to increase the financial allocation for the acquisition and construction of housing by 35%.

"This strategy provides beneficiaries with access to serviced plots, at symbolic prices, while enabling their access to a licensed project for housing construction provided in the respective neighbourhood," said the government official.

"In this regard, there is also the possibility of benefiting from support for housing construction, which may complement the unfunded part of a prospective bank loan," added the Regional Secretary.

In the specific case of the São Brás neighbourhood, 19 serviced plots were allocated, with areas ranging from 159 to 200 m2, for the construction of one-bedroom to four-bedroom houses. They were put to tender together with other building plots in other locations.

The Regional Secretary for Social Solidarity also visited this morning some houses on the island of Terceira where interventions will be carried out under the measure provided for in the Regional Strategy to Combat Poverty and Social Exclusion that aims at the elimination of architectural barriers in the houses with people with reduced mobility.

Moreover, Andreia Cardoso visited four houses where the interventions include the creation of ramps to facilitate the mobility of wheelchairs or the replacement of bathtubs by showers to facilitate access for people with mobility difficulties.
