The Regional Secretary for Social Solidarity revealed today that, since the beginning of the legislative period, the Government has already invested 2.4 million Euros in the rehabilitation of the Region's housing stock.
 
Andreia Cardoso stated that the Regional Secretariat for Social Solidarity, through the Regional Directorate for Housing, "is implementing or has already implemented support measures amounting to 2.4 million Euros for the recovery of degraded housing, covering more than 300 thousand families throughout the Autonomous Region." Next year, the Government plans to carry out "an intervention for the rehabilitation of the housing stock of the Autonomous Region of the Azores, which will represent an investment over 2 million Euros."
 
The Regional Secretary visited 15 homes recovered today with the support allocated by the Government of the Azores under an agreement signed with Santa Luzia Parish Council to support families in the management of these support measures, corresponding to an investment of about 51 thousand Euros
 
"As we have been revealing publicly, the Regional Government has adopted the signing of partnerships with public and private entities as a good practice, pointing out, as example, this agreement with the parish council. It will reach more families and ensure a closer management of current needs and the support allocated," said Andreia Cardoso.
 
In this legislative period, the Government has already signed seven collaboration agreements and protocols with parish councils and private social solidarity institutions, which "allowed the Government to invest 260 thousand Euros in the recovery of degraded housing and, indirectly, in the regional construction sector.
 
All these interventions intend to "guarantee the conditions of hygiene, safety and health that are fundamental today," noted the government official.
 
In this context, the Azorean Government provides an important contribution to social inclusion, Andreia Cardoso said, considering that it is a question of "ensuring inclusion through appropriate housing."
