Angra do Heroísmo ,  April 21, 2020

Press release from the Regional Secretariat for Health

Following the situation with two former inmates, who arrived in Ponta Delgada from Lisbon and who were authorised by the Ponta Delgada Health Delegate to travel to the municipality of Ribeira Grande, violating the compulsory confinement in a hotel unit, the Regional Secretary for Health has decided to dismiss, with immediate effect, the said Health Delegate, Eduardo Cunha Vaz.

Larisa Shogenova, a public health assistant physician at the São Miguel Island Health Unit since 2018, has been appointed to this position, with effect from today.

The new Ponta Delgada Health Delegate Ponta took the Specialisation Course in Public Health and holds a Master's degree in Public Health from the National School of Public Health of Universidade Nova de Lisboa (New University of Lisbon).

She has collaborated in the Training of General Training Interns since 2014.

Her Epidemiological Research in Public Health internship focused on the whooping cough outbreak in the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region during 2012.

Throughout her career, she has participated in several epidemiological studies and led several intervention projects in the area of Public Health.

She has training in Public Health and International Health Auditing as well as in Travel Medicine.

Larisa Shogenova graduated in Medicine at the Kabardino-Balkar State University named after H.M. Berbekov, Nalchik, Russia, in 2003.

The Regional Health Authority clarifies that, regarding the two former inmates who tested positive for COVID-19, they left the Angra do Heroísmo Prison Establishment and headed directly to Lajes Airport with destination to Ponta Delgada.

Upon arrival at Ponta Delgada Airport, they went directly to the hotel unit in a vehicle designated for that purpose, where they were tested and remain, since then, in mandatory confinement.

This was the only route taken by these two former inmates from the moment they left the Angra do Heroísmo Prison Establishment until the moment they were confined in the said hotel unit.
