Civil Protection Application - PROCIV Azores increases user adherence in two years, highlights Rui Luís

The Regional Secretary for Health highlighted the success achieved by the mobile phone application, PROCIV Azores, highlighting the increased adherence to this Regional Civil Protection service.

"The return of the investments made by the Azores Regional Civil Protection and Fire Service (SRPCBA) in the technological area is quite evident in users' access to the PROCIV-Azores application," said Rui Luís. According to him, "this application registered 1,900 downloads in 2017 that increased to 4,000 in 2018 and, as of now, it already registers 5,400 downloads."

Rui Luís spoke at the delivery of the 2nd and 3rd place prizes to the winning schools of the Contest of Ideas of Civil Protection Clubs. On the occasion, he revealed that SRPCBA will make this application available in German, Portuguese and French by the end of this year.

PROCIV Azores was created in 2016. It provides all the necessary information on Civil Protection and currently offers an English version for tourists.

This tool provides useful information in the event of a disaster as well as awareness-raising information for different situations, such as accidents or clinical situations.

"With the growth of tourism, it is essential that visitors feel safe by accessing useful information about the Region and the civil protection services available," stated the government official.

At today's ceremony, the students of the Civil Protection Club of Vila Franca do Campo Basic Education and Secondary School were distinguished with 2nd place prize and the students of Lagoa Basic Education and Secondary School for the results achieved in the second edition of the Contest of Ideas of Civil Protection Clubs.

The 1st place prize had already been previously delivered to the students of the Civil Protection Club of Manuel de Arriaga Secondary School in Horta.

The winning projects were developed as part of the dissemination of the safety and Civil Protection culture using a technological medium.

Promoted by the Azores Regional Civil Protection and Fire Service (SRPCBA), this Contest of Ideas is directed to the 38 Civil Protection civil clubs of the archipelago's schools.

For the Regional Secretary, it is fundamental to have Civil Protection Clubs in schools so that, together with School Boards, they can promote self-protection measures and conduct drills. In this regard, students are an important vehicle of dissemination within the school, families and the community in general.

Students and teachers can participate in Civil Protection clubs, which develop their activities in a 90-minute weekly session.

The projects competing for the Contest of Ideas are presented by club coordinators and should include the goals and activities they would like to address in the following school year.

The evaluation criteria took into account the adequacy of the theme proposed to the Civil Protection mission, originality, relevance, applicability and capacity to involve the community.
