15 General Practice and Family Medicine interns to begin training on "Emergency and Stabilisation of Critical Patients" in the Azores

The Regional Secretariat for Health promotes, starting today, a training for General Practice and Family Medicine interns on "Emergency and Stabilisation of Critical Patients," thus fulfilling the commitment to reinforce training in important areas for the practice of medicine in the Azores.

This course will be attended by 15 General Practice and Family Medicine interns who are completing their specialisation in the Health Units of São Jorge, Pico, Faial, Terceira and São Miguel.

The initiative aims to respond to the needs felt by doctors in this area of specialty, thus complying with the Government's strategy to improve the training of General Practice and Family Medicine doctors and prepare them for the challenges of practising medicine on islands without hospital.

The 16-hour course on "Emergency and Stabilisation of Critical Patients" will be held for two days and consists of four modules, including Obstetrics and Paediatrics, Cardiology, Anaesthesiology/Trauma and Internal Medicine.

The course is primarily intended to improve the technical and non-technical skills in a critical environment, communication and teamwork, familiarisation with material and equipment, and the training of emergency situations.

The training plan prepared by the Regional Directorate for Health, which invests in better conditions for medical practice, provides for the organisation of this course in coming years.

The curse takes placed at Madeira Clinical Simulation Centre in Funchal, under the cooperation protocol signed between the regional health secretariats of the Governments of the Azores and Madeira. Among other areas, it provides for collaboration in the training and specialisation of health professionals.
