Angra do Heroísmo ,  April 09, 2018

Ambulance Relief Crew Course "requires strong commitment and dedication," says President of SRPCBA

The President of the Azores Regional Civil Protection and Fire Service (SRPCBA) highlighted in Angra do Heroísmo the importance of the Relief Ambulance Crew Course for the qualification of personnel in an area that deals with "the rescue and transportation of victims of sudden illness or trauma."

Carlos Neves spoke at the opening of this year's course, stressing that this "five-week training is of considerable complexity that requires a high degree of commitment and dedication on the part of all trainees."

"Only joint work and the commitment of trainees and trainers will allow us to achieve quality training goals that are paramount to the population as well as to the career progression of volunteer firefighters," added Carlos Neves.

The Relief Ambulance Crew Course takes place at the Training Centre of the Azores Regional Civil Protection and Fire Service until May 12. The training will involve 18 trainees from the fire brigades of Angra do Heroísmo, Graciosa, Velas, Calheta, Faial, Lajes do Pico, São Roque do Pico, Madalena and Santa Maria.

The course complies with standardised rules that contribute to the reduction of mortality and morbidity. It aims to provide trainees with the necessary skills in assessing and stabilising victims, performing basic life support, immobilising and transporting victims of sudden illness and/or trauma.

Currently, there are 297 firefighters certified with the Relief Ambulance Crew Course in the Azores, this being the first course held in 2018.
