Ponta Delgada to host workshop on European funds for internationalisation of innovative companies

The Regional Government, through the Regional Fund for Science and Technology, the National Innovation Agency (ANI) and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Ponta Delgada will hold a briefing session on the European Commission’s financial tools for the internationalisation of innovative small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) next Thursday, July 18.

The workshop will focus on the analysis of the SME Instrument, a tool providing for the financing of innovative projects developed by startups and SMEs. This initiative is carried out under the FIMAC project - Fast Track Platform for SMEs through Future Technologies, co-financed by the Interreg Mac Programme 2014-2020, which also aims to boost the use of free FIWARE technology.

The FIMAC project intends to respond to the challenges of the European Digital Agenda by fostering the competitiveness of SMEs, through the development of an internationalisation platform for Macaronesia companies using FIWARE technologies provided by the European Commission.

It should be recalled that the FIMAC project, during one of its work packages, has contributed to the widespread use of the technology in question, FIWARE, through in-person and online training. Furthermore, it has provided consultancy services to a group of Azorean companies with a view to developing a business model for each project.

After being assessed by an external panel, the regional companies Tetrapi, Cereal Games and Custom Project have reached the internationalisation phase with the aim of submitting projects to the European Innovation Council's pilot programme, SME Instrument.

In coordination with the FORWARD project, which aims to consolidate the Azores' participation in international innovation and research projects, this workshop, open to the public, will be held Thursday, July 18, at the premises of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Ponta Delgada, at Rua dos Mercadores, between 10 AM and 1 PM. It represents an opportunity for companies of the regional ecosystem to finance their innovation and internationalisation.
