The Regional Directorate for Fisheries, under the Safe Fishing campaign, in partnership with the Azores Fisheries Federation carried out an awareness campaign on safety on board at Porto Formoso Fishing Port, São Miguel Island.
 
This initiative covered more than a dozen fishers from that village located in the municipality of Ribeira Grande. They had the opportunity to acquire or recall knowledge on prevention and emergency on board and procedures. techniques.
 
"Safety is one of the most important tools in fishing work," said the Regional Director for Fisheries.
 
Luís Rodrigues pointed out that this action addressed "the care to be taken in first aid as well as protection and firefighting on board, being directed towards a quick and effective response in case of accident."
 
The Safe Fishing campaign will be extended to all regional fishing ports in order to raise the awareness of fishers and shipowners for the importance of having the appropriate knowledge on handling safety and salvation equipment.
