A total of 8836 students will take the Portuguese External Summative Assessment Test (PASE) at regional schools tomorrow.

In accordance to the Learning Assessment Regulations for Basic Education levels, the Portuguese External Summative Assessment is held at the end of school levels (4th, 6th and 9th grades) in the subjects of Portuguese and Math.

This Thursday, 2883 students from 221 4th grade classes, 3241 from 156 6th grade classes and 2712 from 142 9th grade classes will be taking the first of these two tests.

Next Monday, the Math PASE will be taken by 8801 students, from 509 classes in the aforementioned school levels; 883 students from 221 4th grade classes, 3242 from 157 6th grade classes and 2676 from 132 9th grade classes.

These tests will be marked by nearly 800 teachers from elementary, middle and junior high school levels, “265 teachers were assigned to 4th grade, 280 to 6th grade and 228 to 9th grade.

The figures were provided by the Regional Secretariat for Education and Training at a press conference held this morning.

Cláudia Cardoso added that “unlike previous years, tests will be marked in the school where they were taken, maintaining the basis of anonymity.”

This year, Secretary stated the, there will be a “support teacher, appointed among the members of the disciplinary groups comprised by these assessment tests in the elementary, middle and junior high school levels, who will be in charge of monitoring the process, providing clarification and disseminating information.

Furthermore, r the Regional Secretary introduced in the present school year a new communication model “in which each teacher will have access toa common area in the moodle platform.”

Simultaneously, the tests will be marked online, making it possible to obtain results on time for printing the evaluation grids so that they may be included in the summative assessment of students,” stated Cláudia Cardoso.

The results of the Portuguese tests will be known on June 3 and the Math tests on June 7.

The Regional Secretary for Education also reminded that this will be the last year in which the tests taken by students in the Azores “will be different from national tests as the latter will be implemented in the Region, hence providing Azorean students with the opportunity to take the same tests as other students nationwide.”
