Cláudia Cardoso calls for defence of women's rights at the Conference on Migrant Women

In the context of the 36th Annual Conference of Portuguese Language and Culture, organised by the Luso American Education Foundation, the Regional Secretary for Education and Training participated in a roundtable on the theme 'Women in Politics,' integrated in the Conference on Migrant Women.

During the session, which also was attended by Manuela Aguiar, President of the General Assembly of Migrant Women's Association, Cláudia Cardoso pointed out that "women, who were considered as second-class citizens, have become equal partners in American society within a generation time." The government official also emphasised that the "possibility of women making their own decisions regarding reproduction was a key element of this revolution."

Speaking in San José, California, the Regional Secretary noted the existence of a "pernicious trend" among the most conservative and radical political sectors in the U.S. that are seeking to halt  these "achievements and going backwards" in the equality of rights "won with difficulty and excessive slowness."

Cláudia Cardoso concluded that "one should not allow these violations to go further; otherwise we will be losing one the most important achievements of the last century."
