Student from Graciosa defends national champion title in MegaSalto

Mainara Rodrigues, student at Graciosa Basic Education School, defended in Elvas the title of national champion of MegaSalto (jump) in the Children B category, reaching. Once again, she reached the best mark achieved in the final stages of the competition - 4.77 metres.

Mainara Rodrigues, who joined David Sebag and Elsa Soares in the Azorean delegation, led by teachers Rui Soares and Manuela Sousa, also placed seventh in the MegaSprinter competition, a 40 meters race, with a time of 6:13."

In the female beginners’ level, Elsa Soares, student at Velas Basic Education and Secondary School, placed sixth in the third round of MegaSprinter, with a time of 6:17. In turn, David Sebag, student at Colégio do Castanheiro, São Miguel Island, placed eighth in the male beginner’s level, with a time of 5:65."

Elsa Soares also participated in the MegaSalto category in the female beginners’ level, jumping 3.57 metres. With this result, she was ranked 21st in the standings.

According to the Regional Directorate for Sport, besides the good sports performance, these three students demonstrated, throughout the event, from May 28 to 31, an attitude of responsibility, solidarity, respect as well as the spirit of healthy competition, which is a source of pride to their schools and to the Azores as well.

The 2014/2015 edition of the MegaSalto/MegaSprinter involved the participation of a total of 5,295 students in the Azores: 4,298 students in the School Stage, 926 students in the Island Phase, 68 students in the Regional Phase and three in the National Phase, representing 31 regional schools.
